Appalachian Spring, music by Aaron Copland, choreography by Martha Graham,
with funds from the Coolidge Foundation, premiered 1944, at the
Library of Congress in Washington DC.

This is a ballet that I thought that I would never see. The music, which
I very much love, is often featured on the radio and I have a book which
contains a single photograph of the ballet. This photograph has always
fascinated me; I couldn't imagine how the sketch like homestead would work.
I was extremely pleased when I found it had been released on DVD, and this
recording is amongst my favourite ballets. I would very much like to see
it performed live - maybe one day!

A very happy birthday to Richard Alston.

Hello, and how ironic. I've resided in the metro DC area for 40 years
and I don't remember (at 65 you can forget many things) any of Copland's
ballets being mounted at the Kennedy Center or elsewhere in the area. I
would jump at the chance to see a major dance company do one (App.
Spring, Billy The Kid, Rodeo) to either Graham's or de Mille's choreo.
Love the music, would love to see it live with dance. Sincerely,
