Sometime back I had read in here a documentary covering the Ballet
Russe. Was it eventually produced, and is it available somewhere? Has
anyone seen it? Just curious.

thanks.

It recently played at the IFC art film theater in
Manhattan's Greenwich Village. It was exciting
on many levels, not the least of which exemplifying
classical ballet as a life's work which is viable
well beyond the age of eighty as a coach-consultant
or whatever. There is a wonderful coaching
session by Frederick Franklin and lovely
footage of a young Danilova, for example.
Definitely worth catching.

I saw it last year here in Tulsa. It is pretty good.
The only problem I had was that they showed all of these
little short clips of some wonderful ballet. After I
saw the clip I wanted to see the whole thing.

It is definitely worth seeing if you can find a place
running it.

It's available here www.dancebooks.co.uk/titles/4707.asp
or www.amazon.com/Ballets-Russes-Nini-Theilade/dp/B000G5SIBM/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3041528-4399326
or www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/1011743/Ballets_Russes/Product.html
or www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/788874
or www.sendit.com/video/item/7000000112029

you can find a whole load of opinions about it here
www.ballet.co.uk/dcforum/happening/5544.html
and here www.ballet.co.uk/dcforum/news/3099.html
and here www.ballet.co.uk/dcforum/happening/5481.html

The documentary has it's own website here
http://www.balletsrussesmovie.co.uk/
(nice downloads available)

What I can tell you is that the version shown in Australia
was longer than that shown in the UK. Check the timings for
the DVDs.

it is worth seeing. the only thing is the music was not what was used cause
it was not recorded a lot of times. so there's nothing they could do.
you could check it out in most public libraries.

Thanks for that heads up. I just finished checking my library's online
site, found they had just purchased the CD, and am number one on the waiting
list.

Yes, it showed in New York last year at Film forum and a couple of other
venues. Loved it! don't know if it's still up, but there was a trailer
online at zeitgeistfilms.com
