Its the PRODUCTION I complain about, not the tear jearker story line. Its
not produced well enough for regular theatre. I dont doubt it isnt a concern
of yours, most people will clap for anything, witness the bad ballets that
recieve thunderous applause just because 'its ballet' and most in the
audience think 'therefore it must be good', even when it is bad. The Russian
National Ballet for instance have terrible productions, to the extent that
the DVD's produced make them look like amateurs, yet they are good far and
above what you see.

Well, it's been a while since I've been here. I see that the
twittering one is still trying desperately to show how witty and
sophisticated he/she/it is...and still failing miserably.

I disagree. The movie is a documentary. Compare it to other
documentaries (which run the gamut from very amateurish camera work on
up). I thought the camera work was not on the low end at all.

The true measure of a documentary is the substance and the way it is
presented. We all thought that this documentary was highly enjoyable
because of its subject, the way it was presented, the balance of
overview and detail, the inclusion of important contrast, the exclusion
of unnecessary clutter, the editing and presentation and the way they
were able to convey "inspiration" without devolving into "maudlin"
(despite your "tear-jerker" epithet).

Lousy production on a live ballet performance or DVD of a live
performance is a whole different matter. I have seen lousy content in
performances with excelent production value and I have seen wonderful
performances within a production that has low production values. It's
absolutely wonderful when a ballet has excellent dancers in a fabulous
production and it is usually pretty awful when one encounters the
reverse. Of course, we'd all love to have the best of all elements,
but given a choice, I'd opt for great artists in a low-end production
every time.
